Projects: Timber Vehicular Bridges

Eglin Air Force Base, Vehicular Timber Bridge

SunBelt Construction Services, Inc. recently had the honor of taking part in a project to aid the federally endangered Okaloosa Darter, a fish species only found in six streams located in the counties of Okaloosa and Walton in the panhandle of Florida. The project consisted of the design and construction of three 10 - Ton rated timber bridges. These structures were replacements for existing culverts. The project was the result of a partnership between the Eglin Natural Resources Branch, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Three Rivers Resource, Conservation and Development organization, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the Eglin AFB Golf Course. The project was regarded as an important task under the Okaloosa Darter Recovery Plan in order to keep the species from becoming extinct as more than 90 percent of the stream inhabited by the Okaloosa Darter is found on the Eglin property.
